Hedge Trimmers

Hedge trimmers make easy work of keeping your hedge, shrubs and bushes in good shape. But if you're not careful they can also make hedge cutting and trimming hard and tiring work if you use one that is not really suited to you or the hedge, shrub or bush you are trimming.

Which of many options is best for you?

The size of your hedge, shrubs or bushes, that’s the depth as well as the height - larger shrubs and hedges will require longer bar lengths and more powerful motors.

Your own personal build, height and physical strength - can you handle a big motorized unit with a long bar *safely* or are you better served with a lighter electric unit

Your budget - motorized units tend to be more expensive and the same rules of thumb hold true for this machine as they do for chainsaws - motorized units are heavier, tend to more power, require more maintenance and upkeep and can work far from power sources.

Blades that cut only one side or both sides - is there an advantage to one or the other for your work (note most modern  trimmers come with a double-sided blade

Biggest Tip

The biggest tip I can give you is to carry a can of WD-40 with you while you're cutting and spray the working blade regularly (on both electric and gasoline models). This is going to make the blade slide very easily - making your work and your machine last longer. A cooler blade slides easier and cuts better.
