Hand Pruners

Sometimes gardeners get a little timid when using hand pruners. But almost every plant requires pruning because it encourages new growth, opens up your plants, which helps prevent diseases, and keeps them in perfect shape. Its not difficult and is easily learned, it just needs a bit of experience and the right tools. Depending on the type of gardening plants you have will depend on what pruning tools you will need.

Four Kinds of Pruning Tools

But there are four basic pruning tools which will do most pruning jobs in your garden:

  • Hand pruners ( Secatuers )
  • Loppers
  • Pruning saws
  • Shears

  • Hand Pruners

Hand pruners ( secatuers ) also known as pruning shears are used to remove small branches from your shrubs and bushes to give them a good overall, appealing shape.
Here are the things you really want to know about this garden tool.

    Loppers

Loppers also know as lopping shears on a slightly larger scale with much longer handles and bigger blades.

    Pruning Saws

Pruning Saws are used for cutting out those difficult to get at branches in bushes, shrubs and trees.  Regular pruners are just that bit too small and loppers just won't get in amongst other branches.

Pole Pruners are what they sound like - a pruning system on top of a pole.  Here are a few things you need to know

    Garden Shears

Garden shears also known as hedge shears or hedge pruners are ideal for cutting back your perennials after they have finished flowering, trimming around edging on unruly lawns and other bigger cutting chores.
