edging

I don't know what we were thinking. We have beautiful sweeping beds and lots of rolling lawn areas.
What we don't have are nice neat edges. We have so much edging that buying some edging product to install and keep things at bay would equal a child's college education.
Since my husband and I do it all ourselves, is there some reasonable way to get a nice edge on things? We just need to beat back the grass and keep it back.
We have thought about a tool of some kind. My husband is hoping for that. Right now we are on our hands and knees and they're wearing out!
Help! This is supposed to be fun. Not!

Doug says "there is hope!" :-) You actually have two options (review coming later this summer)
First - an old-fashioned tool (but still available online at places such as leevalley.com) called (remarkably) and "edger". :-) It looks like a half moon on a handle and with a little practice you can scoot right along slicing and cleaning up the edges of the beds. I have an old one I wouldn't part with.
Second. There are whipper snippers on the market that have the ability to take different working ends. I have one on test this summer and purchased both a small tiller and edger for it. My first trial with this edger was positive - but it was only a 5-minute run. The machine is a tad heavy, noisy as all get-out but you can work fairly quickly. As I said, I do have a video and report coming after I test all the attachments and machine.
There's hope out there! :-)
